They took rats and created stress by making them wade in cold water. Then they performed acupuncture using the acupuncture point of “stomach 36”, that is behind the knee. The results of using stress acupuncture were incredible. The rats who had the acupuncture treatment for 10 days straight had lower cortisol levels. They were less stressed than the unstressed rats or the ones receiving sham acupuncture. Then they gave the rats a drug to block the HPA pathway and the effect of the stress went away.
This is amazing evidence of the exact mechanism acupuncture uses to reduce our stress.
