From personal experience, I can say wholeheartedly that acupuncture for menopause works. I was like most women my age going through the change of life. Hot flashes were raging, especially at night. Every night I woke to my sheets soaking wet. Or worse yet, it wouldn’t be so severe but I would cycle from hot to cold to hot all throughout the night. Then, every time I felt strong emotions of any sort, I would steam up from the bottom of my feet to the top of my scalp. It was miserable and I desperately needed acupuncture for menopause.
Recent studies that looked at research have stated that acupuncture for menopause can reduce the severity of hot flashes and the number of hot flashes. It can also reduce other symptoms such as emotional swings and, generally, improve your quality of life.
How does acupuncture for menopause work?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menopause is seen as a transition where the body begins to store blood and energy for use by her kidneys, the seat of longevity. This transition transforms a woman from a period of fertility to that of a wise woman. TCM doesn’t view menopause as a syndrome, as we do in the West. Instead, acupuncture for menopause is used to treat the patient’s symptoms.
You come into the office and your acupuncture provider will place tiny needles in specific energy points in your body, called meridians. These points allow the energy, called Qi (pronounced chee) to flow freely. More likely than not, it will take a couple sessions for the symptoms to ease.
However, in my experience, I saw relief almost immediately. I could sleep again for longer periods of time. Last night, I slept through the entire night without one hot flash. Was it a miracle? No, it was acupuncture for menopause.
